The striking photoshoot featuring Caitin, a model with ‘Cat Eye Syndrome’

‘This collaboration has been the most beautiful whirlwind of my life.’

Caitin Stickels is 29. She was born with a rare disorder called Schmid–Fraccaro syndrome, also known as ‘Cat Eye Syndrome’, which has given her unique facial features.

Caitin is neither pretty nor ugly. Her looks are so unusual that conventional definitions cannot really be used to describe them. Her face is simultaneously strange and fascinating. It looks like it has come out of some story from Nordic mythology, but Caitin is flesh and blood and lives on the outskirts of Seattle.

However, as well as giving her a number of physical peculiarities, Caitin’s condition also brings with it a host of medical problems such as scoliosis, cleft palate, cleft lip, and potential heart and liver failure.

Caitin proudly displays her extraordinary looks while modeling for artistic projects which she shares on Instagram. In her Model Mayhem profile she says: ‘I am exotic, to say the least, and you will have to like something different to like me.’

Now V magazine has published this remarkable session with British fashion photographer Nick Knight, in which the model can be seen posing in Prada, Dior, Coach and other designer brands. Knight has previously photographed Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Kanye West and the Queen of England.

‘I don’t want to say that this was MY dream come true, because I think working with Nick Knight is anyone’s dream that I never dared to actually have myself,’ said Caitin.

‘Nick saw what I’d been doing on my own accord and he gave me the chance that I never gave myself, as did V. This collaboration has been the most beautiful whirlwind of my life.’
