He just can’t keep his eyes to himself…
We all know that one person who says inappropriate things constantly and makes us cringe. Well, that is Donald Trump, everyday.
As Mr. Trump was welcomed with open arms to Paris by the president, Emmanuel Macron, he just couldn’t help commenting on the physical appearance of his counterpart’s wife, Brigitte Macron.
Standing in the hallway of the landmark Hôtel national des Invalides, coiffed hair in place, the US president confirmed, again, that to him women’s bodies come first, and mind’s second.
After the infamous ‘pussy-grabbing’ tale before last year’s election, the whole world is well-acquainted with the most powerful man in the world’s blatant sexism.
So, when Mr.Trump was filmed eyeing the French leader’s wife up and down, telling her ‘You’re in such good shape’, people were rightly outraged, but not really surprised. During the shot clip, The Donald first offers a ‘complement’ to the first lady, before turning to her husband to say: ‘She’s in such good shape’.
Oh, but wait, he wasn’t done just yet. As Mr.Trump started to walk away, he turned back to get another good look at Mrs. Macron, nodding in approval and muttering the word ‘beautiful’.
Although Mrs. Macron didn’t give much away, she took Melania Trump, the US president’s wife, by the arm and appeared to shuffle slightly backwards. Just imagine if this was your husband.
The Trumps are currently on a diplomatic tour of Paris to achieve a working partnership between the US and France. After getting off to a frosty start at last week’s G20 summit, the pair appear to have put their differences aside in the name of democracy.
However, whether this latest controversy will throw a spanner in the works remains to be seen. Critics on social media aren’t happy, that’s for sure.
This is hardly the first woman Mr. Trump has degraded or passed comments on in public, in fact, Mrs. Macron got off lightly compared to some of the of the female figures who have crossed him.
Last month he interrupted a phone call in the Oval office with the prime minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, to drool over the RTÉ News Washington correspondent, Caitriona Perry.
‘And where are you from?’ the president asked her. ‘Go ahead. Come here, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.’ He then said to Varadkar: ‘She has a nice smile on her face so I bet she treats you well.’
